Further proving the “ironclad ties” of the father and son tandem, the New York Times (NYT) reported in a recent feature that Hunter and President Joe Biden frequently speak on the phone and sometimes talk politics. The news outlet even described the younger Biden as the president’s “informal adviser” who has even shaped the latter’s speeches. The blatant admission came amid a recent push from the Republicans led by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for an impeachment inquiry into the POTUS, wherein the son remains under active investigation by a special counsel.
“People who know both men say their bond is singular in its intensity,” the Times reported. “But even allies of President Biden, who prides himself on his political and human instincts, say he has at times been too deferential to his younger son, appearing unwilling to tell him no, despite Hunter’s problems and his long trail of bad decisions.” It added that Biden’s devotion to his son means that he has long followed Hunter’s lead. “Allies of the president have deep respect for the bond, but have privately criticized Mr. Biden’s apparent inability to say no when Hunter sought to pull him into his business dealings,” the report continued.
Some even comment that his loyalty to his son – inviting him to state dinners, flying with him aboard Marine One, and standing on the White House balcony with him – has resulted in wholly avoidable political distractions. The advisory position of Hunter also raised concern among Republicans as a potential conflict of interest. “The House Oversight Committee must immediately subpoena Hunter’s records and have a staff deposition,” Mike Davis, founder and president of the pro-Donald Trump Article III Project and former Chief Counsel for Nominations to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, told Breitbart News.
Biden tries to keep his son close despite years of proven alcoholism and drug addiction. The older Biden even supported Hunter’s previous romantic relationship with Joe’s deceased son Beau’s widow Hallie Buhle, which set off tabloid headlines and more family angst.
On a trip to Ireland last spring, Hunter accompanied his father and they rode Air Force One. He reportedly slept on a cot in his father’s hotel room. Whenever the son flies to Washington from his Malibu home, he stays (sometimes for weeks) at the White House. When he is in the Santa Monica Mountains region, Joe calls him sometimes more than once a day and nearly every day.
For people who know them both, Hunter shares his father’s tendency toward effusiveness and intensity in interactions with people he loves. Both also have a quick temper. “I’m like his security blanket,” Hunter told the New Yorker in 2019. “I don’t tell the staff what to do. I’m not there giving directions or orders. I shake everybody’s hands. And then I tell him to close his eyes on the bus. I can say things to him that nobody else can.”
In 2018, Joe left a voicemail for Hunter expressing concern that sensitive information was included in a separate NYT article about the younger Biden’s involvement with CEFC’s chairman Ye Jianming. “Hey pal, it’s Dad. It’s 8:15 on Wednesday night. If you get a chance just give me a call. Nothing urgent… I thought the article released online, it’s going to be printed tomorrow in the Times, was good. I think you’re clear. I love you,” the message concluded.
The following year, Hunter disclosed to his daughter that “Pop Joe” collected half of his salary for 30 years. He claimed to have paid thousands of dollars for his father’s house repairs from the money reportedly obtained from selling access to the then-vice president. “It’s really hard. But don’t worry, unlike Pop, I won’t make you give me half your salary,” he reportedly texted his child.

According to a recent CNN survey, 61 percent of Americans believe Joe Biden was involved in his family’s business deals with China and Ukraine. Only 38 percent said the older Biden was not involved, and just one percent said he was involved and did nothing wrong. Also, 55 percent said the president has acted inappropriately regarding the investigation into Hunter over potential crimes, while 44 percent said his actions were appropriate.

The poll that was conducted before special counsel David Weiss indicated in a court filing that he intended to seek an indictment against Hunter relating to gun charges by the end of the month. It was conducted by SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) from August 25-31 among a random national sample of 1,503 adults drawn from a probability-based panel. The survey included an oversample to reach a total of 898 Republicans and Republican-leaning independents; this group has been weighted to its proper size within the population. Surveys were either conducted online or by telephone with a live interviewer. Results among the full sample have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 points.
