Political strategist Steve Bannon and retired General Mike Flynn recently got together on the WarRoom program, where they shared their strategy for Trump’s second term in office. It emphasizes quick personnel changes, along with a very aggressive deportation program and a stronger focus on domestic energy. It also tackles what some perceive to be his biggest potential challenges when he returns.
Removing bureaucratic roadblocks
Their first order of business is quickly replacing any federal bureaucrats who could stand in Trump’s way as he carries out his plans. Flynn believes that the “highly qualified experts” and other senior officials who are currently working in a number of federal agencies will strive to block Trump at every turn and therefore need to be let go. He thinks this is something that should happen during the first days of his term so that he can get right down to business.
Beefing up security
Another priority from Flynn’s point of view is ensuring Trump has solid and dependable security that is capable of protecting him from the many threats he is likely to encounter. The Secret Service failed spectacularly during the attempted assassination against Trump at a Pennsylvania rally earlier this year, and the incident has caused many people to lose faith in the agency’s capabilities and desire to protect Trump. A recent independent review found “numerous mistakes” and “specific failures” that led them to warn a similar incident “can and will happen again” if the agency is not reformed.
Flynn believes that Trump should call on specialized military units to ensure maximum protection as he will need plenty of confidence that those around him are prepared to protect him at all costs.
Preparing for political opposition
Trump may have managed to attract votes from more than half of the country, but that does not mean that he won’t encounter political adversaries, even if Republicans do ultimately take control over the House. Bitter about Harris’s loss, Trump’s opponents will likely do everything they can to prevent Trump from governing the country effectively and carrying out his campaign promises. One person who Flynn believes will provide significant resistance is former CIA director John Brennan.
Flynn noted: “Brennan is one of the most evil people on the planet.”
Moreover, Flynn believes that Trump’s team needs to be incredibly strong to deal with the intense scrutiny they will face from external and internal forces alike. He emphasized that Trump should surround himself with a team who can carry out his plans without wavering.
Advancing policies
The policy road map highlighted by Bannon and Flynn that they believe could energize Trump’s base focuses on three main areas.
Deportation: One of Trump’s top priorities is shoring up the nation’s borders, and this will undoubtedly require a major deportation effort. Although this is something he will likely seek to address right away, it will take some time to carry out and will require a firm ongoing commitment.
Government accountability: Flynn believes that a task force should be set up to hold officials and federal agencies more accountable, investigating those who are participating in obstruction and corruption and removing them from their positions.
Energy independence: According to Flynn, returning America to complete energy independence could help to “jump-start the economy” and restore America’s global standing.
Trump will be facing an uphill battle when he takes office in January, and Flynn and Bannon believe that an assertive approach will be needed to carry out his mission and address the many challenges he will face. He will also use the lessons he learned from his first stint in office to inform his strategy this time around.
Flynn noted: “This time, we’re prepared. Accountability must happen.”
